Of all the luck....Some people seem to think they are FUNNY!

Post by LANCE65 »

Last week I had taken the '69 I had for sale up to a friends house so I could clean up my back yard.Well then we got SNOW! COOL :woohoo: I didn't think nothing about the truck....UNTIL I get a call to come check it out. A freeze plug popped out AND there is water in the oil! So I am guessing a cracked block? :x  ( I had never checked to see if there was any anti0freeze in it!) So, my plans of selling it (sorry Steve) have changed. I have a good running '77 F250 Ranger XLT that the body is not the greatest, but has a 460/C6 and all the mounts, front sway bar, rear sway bar,etc...that I may just swap over to the '69 and look for another bed.......any suggestions? Thanks
Oh and btw, I will have some 390 parts for sale.

It didn't have any anit-freeze and the water froze and pushed the freeze plug out. Now how the water got in there, I am not sure yet.

I think you should replace the freeze plug and fluids and start her up

If there's water in the oil then the block is more than likely cracked. A blown freeze plug isn't going to cause internal leakage.

coolant/water is flowing around the cylinders to cool them off. your engine block is constantly filled with coolant on the outside. IF you run straight water and no anti freeze your engine runs a very high risk of freezing over and causing a lot of damage. physics is a son of a bi$#@. warm water freezes faster than room temp water. water also expands exponentially when frozen. since your coolant and oil passages are side by side and you said you found oil in the water the block is toasted. damnit! i was suppose to pick it up tomorrow too! ah well.

Id put a new freeze plug and coolant in. You never know. Maybe it was just ironic. Water could be getting in oil, you have anti freeze in it right? if you didn't thats ur problem

Irony, the number one cause of water in oil.

Yes, you should run 'anti-freeze' year round, even if it doesn't freeze where you live. It's functions also a rust inhibitor for the cooling system.

If you look on most gallon jugs it does say antifreeze/coolant.
We did an experiment in chemistry lab once when I was in school. Cold water freezes faster than warm or room temperature water. I think one of the TV shows showed that also. lol
IF the engine has not been turned over and water is showing in the oil afrter a hard freeze you can bet a cylinder wall has busted.
Time for a 460!

I use to be a plumber for about 10 years and most of the time when a pipe freezes and bust its 80% the hot water line.
