Belts
I want to get a alternator belt for my motor. It is my understanding that the belt goes between the alternator and the crank pulley.
Did the mid 70s 460s have a smog pump above the alternator or something?
I got a belt for a 75 F100 without AC and it is too long, then asked for one out of a 77 F100 with a 460, still too long.

Re: Belts
Good evening Tim!
I agree with Hazelnut's recommendation. Regardless of what's specified for your setup, going with a custom belt length isn't excessively difficult and gives you an optimum length.
The string method's good! Keep in mind that most string is pretty stretchy. And I'm sure this is obvious to you, but take care to measure it with the pulleys adjusted around where you'd like them to be when the belt's tight.
While putting together my March setup, I tried two or three belts before getting the right length. The first belt was blindly selected based on March's recommendation, and it was way too long!
Have a fantastic week Tim!

Re: Belts
Just an idea for ya. I have a couple different width LONG belts that I've saved............
I've marked out 1" incriments on them (after cutting them).
Makes for easy measuring.

Wow, now that is a clever idea! I'll try to remember that for next time.FreakysFords wrote:I've marked out 1" incriments on them (after cutting them).

Re: Belts
its a 7350. it only went to the alt and the crank. not the water pump i think. here are some pictures now the power steering bracket isnt correct for this engine as we can all tell. i think it may be a from a dodge dakota. but i havent verified that yet.

Re: Belts
FWIW the belt that fordman is showing is a 7350, meaning 7 series width and 35.0 inches long.
So basically if the 7350 was three inches too long you would need a 7320.
8 series and 9 series belts are wider respectively.

Interesting. I measured around 35 inches.BobbyFord wrote:FWIW the belt that fordman is showing is a 7350, meaning 7 series width and 35.0 inches long.

The belt I got from the parts store is a 7530. A bit too long haha.
