Steering Box Identification Help

I have two steering boxes and I don't know what they came out of nor what make they are or if they are manual or power. I was hoping that you good folks might be able to help me if, it is possible, in identifying them through the numbers on them.

They both have the same numbers. When facing the exact same way , one is right side up and the other is upside down.

D 1 (or is it a /) TR-3550-BA Now there is a small set of numbers , both near the shaft side of the casing. One is what looks to be 257 and the other one looks to be 301.
Also, on the casing of the shaft there is also some numbers. One has C7AR on top and 3A587-A below. The other one has CFB ( I think ) on top and 330 below.
So, with that info, can anyone familiar with steering boxes able to tell me what I have?
Also , any idea of what they are worth?

Manual 2wd gear boxes are a 3 bolt top cover and interchange from 65-79 but Pitman Arms change
Bendix Bolt is 4 bolt top cover 66-68
Ford Saginaw Box is a 2 Bolt Top Cover Power Steering Box used from 69-79 F-100/250/350 2wd trucks but use different Pitman Arms on 250 over 8000 GVWR'S and all F-350's

some boxes should have a metal tag on it as well

What do you mean when you say "top cover"?

I did a google search of the number D1TR-3550-BA

D refers to 70s
1 refers to year of truck or when the latest revision came out so in this case it would be from a 71 or later with the latest revision being from 71
T refers to truck
R not sure

3550 refers to the whole unit being a steering gear assembly
B ?
A ?

One guy had the same number and it was an original power steering box from a '75. One guy sold one on ebay and he claimed it was a power steering box for a '73-'79. Mine has the FORD logo stamped on both. Would that mean they are both Ford Saginaw? Also I guess since its a 71 or later then it would have to be Saginaw right?

and upon further inspection, they both have C7AR 3A587-A cast on the input shaft housing

Here's mine. It's an original '71 Saginaw power steering gear box. Looks like the same numbers. See those 2 hoses/lines on top? Those are power steering hoses. A manual unit would not have those or the ports they screw into.

Well duh!!! How stupid am I. Of course they would be ports for the power steering lines. Makes perfect sense now that you mention it. I looked right at them and never thought twice about them. Just concentrating on the numbers to even see the ports. Mine have exactly the same thing.

one of my 1971 Ford Saginaw Power Steering Boxes has a thingamajiggy bolted onto the bracket at the top. Its got lines coming out of it as well. And if I could ever figure out how to post pics like you just did I would post a pic of it. What is it called and what does it do?

I'm learning this mechanic stuff by trying to do work on this rebuild so the correct terminology is not always there. I have learned a TON of information from this site and is my go to place. I don't contribute a whole lot, if anything, 'cause I don't know very much.

And Randy...… I watched your youtube slideshow on column rebuild. It is my next big undertaking and had no where to start before watching that. Now I have a clue what to do. Thank you for making your channel.

Kind of something like in this maybe bolted to the bracket like on top of my steering gear?

What are they worth? In useable condition, without rebuild, i would say $50-$75. But then, I'm a cheap bast**d.

Here's how I post photos from my computer https://fordification.com/forum/viewtop ... 569200cb08. Same process applies to a phone. The trick is getting the pics file small enough to upload, under 500kb. I find that if I view my photo, then take a screenshot, and crop it down it's usually small enough. My phone takes 3 Mb photos but that works for me.

Thanks Randy. Your tutorial on how to do it along with a Photo Resizer app did the trick. My photos were too big. Then I got the app.

So..... what's the thingamajiggy on top called and do?
