Late model heads on early model 302

Post by hickchemistry07 »

I have a 1971 lwb with the original 302 I'm wanting to go through and do some upgrades. I have read all about the the GT40 and E7 heads as a good upgrade. Long story short, I came across a set of E8JL heads out of a boat with a 351W which had a cracked block. I got the heads at a good deal along with the pistons and rods, cam and lifters, and crank. From my searching I have found these to be 5.0 heads, not 351W which I had wanted. But anyways, I figured they would be in the same league as the E7 truck heads. Can anyone give me anymore info on these heads? CC, valve size, etc? Also I'm wanting to upgrade to roller rocker arms, how much work would be involved in this process? I have searched 'other' forums for answers. But I've learned, if it has to do with a bump, this is the place!! :fr: I can not say enough about this forum. Anytime I have a question I usually do a search, and there's the answer. If not, leave a post, and there's the answer. For this I say, Thank You!!
Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

Man why not throw some 351w heads and intake on there? And a 351 w cam, and use the 351w firing order. I bet hads be beast.

Thanks again for everybody's help. So far I came up with E-1980 8-1988 J-Industrial L-Marine. Also I came up with a date code of 1990: 0F8(1990, June 8) & 0B14(1990, February 14). Is this correct?
freakysfords, what info do you need? Pix, casting numbers, date codes, etc? I'll get whatever you need, I'm at a stand still. And one more thing the casting numbers are: "E8JL AA". If that helps any. I know it means there were many revisions to this head ie: A,B,C,D,...X,Y,Z,AA. But any info would help.
Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

That's supposed to be: 0F8(1990, June 8). Don't know how the cool sunglasses made it in there. :)

Whatever you can give me (pics too would be great) and I'll pass it on to him. He has been the local Ford Parts MGR since the early 80s and over the course of 12 yrs, I've yet to hit him with a part that he couldn't name me the part number to. Sadly we no longer have a Ford dealership as it was bought out by an idiot who ran it into the ground and Ford shut him down. The man's name is Greg and he now works for a  honda  dealership, but he's kept all his books from the late 40s up and can't seem to forget a single thing he's ever known.
