fuel pump bad?

Post by Zorm »

71 with a 360 2bbl stock carb. Hand engine runing then it dies. Thought it ran out of gas so i put more in. Still not fire off. The Truck is sitting on the side of the street with the drivers side higher than the passengers side, so I think maybe the fuel is not getting to the line, put more gas in, still no fire off. I replaced the fuel filter on the carb and on the fuel pump, there was gas in the fuel pump filter housing. Sstart her up and no fire off, then I pull the fuel line off the carb, turn her over and nothing comes out. Go back to the fuel pump, take off the housing and no fuel in it, bad fuel pump or do I need to prime it when I change the filter??

the pump could be bad . it could have lost its prime by having a hole in the line inside the tank or under the truck coming out of the cab. that is where mine had a hole in it. the truck would run as long as you poured gas down the carb. but it wouldn't prime the pump because of the pin hole in the fuel line.
