360 Lifter Test?

Post by 70F250CamperSpecial »

I am in the process of replacing a couple of push rods. I want to check the lifters. Most of them are very firm when pushing them in using a push rod, a couple of them have a little "spring" in them when pushed in. What is the best way to test to see if they are ok?

Thanks, Rob

PS - It was running as good as it could on 6 cyl's before I took it apart. RRR.

Put it back together and listen to how it sounds. Its not that much trouble to take it back apart if you here a lifter ticking. The lifters with a little "spring" in them should pump up when the engine starts and quiet down.
some times the lifter "bleeds down" when the engine is shut off.
