On my 460 I can not get the distributor to go all the way down. It stops about aa 1/4" short. I think the oil pump drive shaft is not slipping into the end. Do I just have to keep trying to turn the distributor shaft a bit at a time till I get it?
If only the oil pump drive shaft would stay centered.

Re: Installing the distributor
i turned the rotor and they have fell right in. i think i would turn the enigne by hand to get it to drop in. rather than bumping it with the starter. that may go too far and get it out of time. it would for me anyway.

Re: Installing the distributor
If it is engaged on the cam gear it cannot "get out of time" . What you are feeling is the hex drive for the oil pump is not aligned yet. I jumper the solenoid and bump the engine and it will fall right in place.
