i have a 1972 f250 with a 360 c6,, it has been in my garage for about 4 years...just havent had time to get it out and drive it ...to nice to use as a every day driver...i have started it on a regular basis..it runs great has 87000 miles on it...pulled the moter detailed it and under the hood this past winter...looks great...finally got it out to drive and i hear a knock .... every one who i ask said it is a wrest pin ...why would this start now ??? could it be from setting so long ?? any ideas ??? i dont want to pull the moter and rebuild it .. unless i have to ...help me if you can thanks bruce

One way to diagnose a wrist pin is to short out a cylinder at a time (or pull a plug wire)
and listen for a change in the knock.
If it double ticks it 's probably a wrist pin ,otherwise it could be a lifter or that famous FE exhaust tick.

Rarely do pressed in pins (stock 360) have wrist pin problems. My truck got down to 1 quart of oil last year on a 300 mile highway run due to Jiffy lube and the bottom still does not tick and I have over 200000 but my tappets and cam is shot and noisy.

It could be the arm on the fuel pump, the arm may be worn or the spring is weak.Use a long rod or a length of heater hose and check to see if the noise is in the bottom end or in the valve train.
