Getting part together to re-install a factory aux fuel tank into my 71 F-250 camper special. Had a tank originally, apparently removed a couple of owners ago. Only part remaining was the filler tube (and the original gas cap).
Was able to get most of the parts new from LMC (tank, sender unit, hoses, clamps, etc). The only exception was mounting hardware. This includes the two straps and of course the skid plate.
Found the straps off a 73 and 76 pickup in a wrecking yard. Mounting between bump and dent for the forward aux fuel tank is essentially the same. Will need to get creative with the threaded bolts, but otherwise the test fitting I did the other day makes it look like it will fit nicely. Will try and take some installation photos and post them here when complete.
My real question focuses on the fuel lines. As mentioned, the truck had no aux fuel tank for years (decades actually). Cleaning out the filler tube will be quite easy. I plan to replace all the rubber fuel lines (tank to hard line, hard line to fuel switch, fuel switch to hard line, and on).
Actuation of the fuel selector switch (manual style, just inside the driver door on floor) seems fine. It moves and clicks into place, no leaking seems to come from the switch.
I'd replace it if I could find one to purchase (just to be on the safe side), but they only seem to sell the dent style electrical switch.
Has anyone had any experience with these original style manual switches that would indicate I should expect any problems when I all the plumbing up?
Thanks!
