Re: holley carb install problems
vacuum lines for a stock enigne is only one. and that goes from the dist to the front port of the lower carb. everything else will be emissions pretty much. except for any vacuum lines that went to the intake. those could be automatic transmission modulator. and mayeb another i cant think of right now. and not to forget the brake booster will tie into the intake vacuum tree also. the firing order for the 302 is 15426378. the book says that the timing is to be set at 10 degrees after tdc. to time it when running you need a timing light hooke dup and point it at the crank damper to read the numbers it is set at.

Re: holley carb install problems
many guys are running electric fans with automatic switches. the easiest upgrade is the durasprak dist. if your points work and you dont have the money leave them in there and forget the duraspark.

Ell those poins to electronic ignition is only like eighty bucks so I want to do that. But what about carburetor ajustments? An do carburetor breathers work or do that just look good? An sense I was converting to electronic ignition can I upgrade my ignition coil? I don't now what it does but there's a flame thrower one an I guess it gives a higher output of voltage an help with throttle responce?

Re: holley carb install problems
Thanks guys for all ur support but I got tragic news. I pulled the drain plug out an view what came out...... 5 quarts of water from no intake manifold an carb being on the truck for years so I suspect everything is rusted like crazy so I decided to do a major engine overhaul on it I got the whole kit on the way from. Ebay. One question can I do it without removing the engine? I was thinkin about putting the truck up high on somewhat stands an just work from the bottom. It may take a little longer but I don't want to do all that removal an installation. Also I want to go head an rebuild the carbon but I don't know what kit to buy cuz the carb is so old. I can't make the model numbers out an stuff. Help an thanks

If there was water in the pan then the cylinders are rusted. Pull the heads first and see how the cyl. walls look and go from there; you may need a new block...

Re: holley carb install problems
Why pay for a 670 Avenger unless you are going racing. The carb is way bigger than a 302 needs for just getting around and is not tuned for gas mileage and power just power.
Plus it costs way more than a 600.

Re: holley carb install problems
Well a buddy of mine builds drag cars an he just had a holley avenger just layin around so he sold it to me for 75 bucks but when me an my buddy was turnin the motor over an took the fuel line of the carb fuel was barely pushing fuel out. Its posed to have pressure like seven pounds rite. That lil bit of fuel that was being pumped out speraticly wouldn't start the motor no way. So what now? How do I get more fuel? Should I put a inline pump in an call it a day? Could it be the fuel filter that looks like a oil filter? Where should my diagnosis begin?

Re: holley carb install problems
No fuel pressure, are you sure it was water and not gas in the pan.? A rupture in the pump will fill the pan with gas. Fuel will shoot almost out of the engine compartment with a good pump. The filter on the bottom of the pump can be clogged.
To answer two of your other questions you can put an electric fuel pump on and block off where the mechanical one goes.
I use an electric fan run by a thermostat that runs at 180 even if the engine is off. So my truck never gets hot even setting.

Re: holley carb install problems
If it did not shoot more than 4.5 psi and all across the engine compartment it is bad. Period. And no fuels pumps went into the tanks until after Fuel Injection went standard.
The old one fits in the can and the can spins right on, well rarely spins off, mounted on the bottom of the fuel pump.
