Okay here at 6000 feet I drive after a 2 minute warm up a mile and set for a light before my truck warms up enough to show on the gauge. Without a choke I would have to struggle forever to get it to run without backfiring. My electric choke just needs to have the fast idle adjusted up as when I first start the choke loads the engine up due to too low an RPM.

Without a choke I don't think I would like to have to deal with cold starts.

What kind of carb do you have? What engine? FEs are notoriously cold blooded that once warmed will stay warm for a long time.

It's there for a reason, It's one of those things that make your life all that much more easier.

Chokes are not hard to fix or replace, in the "help" section of your average auto parts store they have a kit to turn any choke into a manual choke for about $11.00. It's a real nice kit: http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp ... RP2037____

They also have parts to fix your heat riser choke or convert it to a electric choke.

Get an electric kit from Holley and put the parts in your old carb.
