They should have matched the valve spring with the springs that come with the comp cam kit or removed the inner spring on break in first and the replace inner springs after break in. Comp Cams will not respond to cam failures because of liability and using their response in forums or websites. I still think in my opinion that cam manufactures are using foreign core steel or cast that is not what we use to have here in the USA (look up in google of DART chineese engine block). I am thinking of going roller after seeing what I have seen. I am going to ask Tom when my engine goes to him the end of January to do a build maybe simuliar to RobRoy. We will see. My budget is only about 6K or 6500 max so may not be the case. Blessings to everyone for the new year and I hope and pray that RobRoy gets most, if not all his money back from ProFormance Unlimited....
Blessings,

Tom built a roller 302 for our Mach1. It cost about double the 360 to 410 conversion. Once we decided to go roller it was too easy to add more go fast upgrades. Some of the upgrades were required due to the higher operating RPM's of the 302. I do not have the computer output handy but for a quick comparison both engines use the same carburetor, meaning they can move about the same amount of air. The 302 just spins faster at max HP. While we do not plan to drive at max HP often the engine has to be able to handle the higher RPMs. My very limited experience confirms two things I have read: 1) It becomes expensive to get more than 1 HP per inch of displacement 2) It takes will power to stay in budget.
Good luck with your project.

I could not remember you for some reason. You were the one I had read posts about Tom @ FE Specialties and nice to hear that the engines you have are going strong. I have been trying to plan and budget for the build, now I decided to go forward. I emailed Tom today and he is going to get back to me about an estimate. The more I think about it I am wondering if I should go 428 and roller cam and be done with it. I have enough funds coming but dont know an exact date. If I go 428 I will have to rebuild the trans to make sure of power and I am going to go gear vendor and new drive shaft. The Dana 60 should hold up fine, but probably go posi. I plan on taking the engine to Tom around 1/20. I am at the point of being completelly confident I will have an FE that will last a long time and be dependable with great power. I am going to in the spring go EFI and put on the Retrotek and see what kind of milage I can get with the set up. When I get close I will do photos and hopefully video. RobRoy has inspired me with getting my act together with pictures and video. I guess I will have to have my kids to help me do it... I really appreciate this forum and everyone's opinions and advice. It really has helped me. Ford stuff is newer to me since I have always worked on Chevys most of my life and in my 40's now. When I was in high school I use to say things like my "I would rather push a chevy then drive a Ford" well I drove the Ford when I blew 2 transmissions and one rear diff on my Chevelle (Irony). Now I will be towing my 67 chevelle with my Ford and I think its pretty cool.... When I get the Chevelle on the trailer I will post the Chevy on the trailer behind the Ford.... Happy New Year to Fordification and everyone on the forum... You guys are in my prayers for the 2010 new year... Hope and pray well all will have alot more $$$ to tinker with the bumps.... oh yea....
My C6 lasted about a year after I installed the new engine before it started to slip. I think that was just age and not necessarily associated with the new higher torque engine. My Dana 60 has not complained at all. I can make one tire spin easily and if the road is wet have to be very careful not to spin (4.10 rear end). I want to add a TrueTrac but all the extra car money is going toward the Mach1 right now. My Dana 60 has not complained at all. Sounds like you have a plan and understand the domino effect when you upgrade the engine.

Has anybody used the system or company that puts the new cams on a machine of some sorts and breaks them in that way?
I read or heard about it a while back and wondered if it is worth the money.
I have been real lucky on cam break-ins but know one guy at least that had trouble and have read about a lot of people on line having trouble
