I know it's been a while since I posted on here, but I finally have the Mighty 390 running and in the truck. Now maybe I'll have more time to spend here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROY3F5SN0Q0

Sounds like your newly built FE is really purring. In the video description it said that it was your first FE build, just wondering how the build itself went for you.

It was interesting to say the least. I got a ton of good information from those old guys on fordfe.com, very knowledgeable. There are just so many things that are unique to the FE motor. One thing for sure, there are lots of aftermarket parts out there.

Those are Hooker Aero Chambers. Very quiet. The Flowmasters are too loud. I have flowmasters on my Mustang and Magnaflows on my Fusion, just wanted something a little more Old School sounding.
Man, that sounds great. Looks like you've got a nice project going there. Right at the end of the video I got a chuckle.... It's good to see that the simple things in life still make you happy. That was a great grin on your face just as the camera was shut off. Congrats on the job well done.
If I had not already had my extra 302 in the garage, I think I would have went with a 390.

Thanks for sharing that video! Your new engine sounds excellent. That's really neat that you did it all yourself!
I've heard many times that the FE is an unusual engine, and must be worked on differently from more popular, modern engines. If you have a moment to comment on this, I'd be curious to hear about any specifics that you ran in to. How did it turn out to be different? What were the biggest surprises?
Also, if the truck's in shape to drive, what do you think of the new engine's performance and characteristics? Do you see major differences from before the rebuild?
Probably the biggest surprise was that a brand new set of Edlebrock RPM Performer Heads and Intake didn't match up. It was very annoying. I bet I had to take the intake off 3 times before I it was decided to hog out the underneath side of the intake and heli-coil the heads. All on brand new parts. As far as everything else, it's still pretty much an internal combustion engine, just a different design than you see these days. The idea that the push rods go thru the intake goes against a lot. As for the performance, all I can do is grin. The old 360 was down on compression and didn't make much horsepower. This engine is 10-1 compression and makes lots of hp and torque. The slightest blip of the throttle will break loose the tires.
