I just picked a F350 parts truck. It has a dually flatbed rear dana 60.
assuming it will bolt into my '72 F260, what would I be looking at to swap the trac-lock (posi, whatever) from the existing rear end into the dually rear axle?
I originally was going to use only the dually outers on my old rear end, but the dually rear has the right gears for my 4wd (to match the front, something the old rear end in the '72 does not have, due to being changed on the side of the Hiway in nowhere, nevada on a friday afternoon after I blew the original axle out)
so here are my options-
1) install the dually outers on the current posi rear in the truck, then change the gears to the correct gears. (and I have a gear set already for this). I have never messed with gearing, so it would have to be farmed out to a shop.
or-
2) install the complete dually rear in my truck then figure out how to install the posi set in this housing. would this have to farmed out, also? or can a shadetree mechanic like me do this?
does any of this make sense? I need to do this as cheep as possible due to lack of funds until the Kid is 18 or so.
