3" single or duall 2 1/2? (sound clip added 5-13-10)
So im redoing my exhaust from the headers back.
I have a 89 HO 5.0 with AOD. Im trying to get max HP, what is the best setup for max hp or max flow?
I was thinking of going with 2 1/2" pipe from the headers to a Y pipe exiting to a 3" in flowmaster and a 3" out to the front of the rear wheels.
or
Duall 2 1/2" pipe to duall flowmasters (more money) exiting in front of the rear wheels.
This will requier some room making for the pipe on the drivers side.
Oh one more question, what series flow master will sound good?
Thanks

Dual in front of the rear wheels or dual all the way back. I'm not a big fan of singles (or FlowMasters, for that matter).

I would go with dual but I don't have that much room under the cab unless I do some cutting.
I need something that will flow like if it had dualls with out the duals.

Good afternoon Marcelino!
I've also been thinking about exhaust lately, and I've found a large number of informative, existing threads on FORDification that I've been reading through. Perhaps one or more of these will interest you?
Which flowmaster's best for Proformanceunlimited's 400HP FE?
2.5" vs 3" pipe size for high powered FE; which is better?
Does an X need to be an even distance from each header?
H-Pipe on 390- FYI
dual exhaust down one side?
Have a fantastic day Marcelino!

After reading all this good info I decided to go with 2 1/2 to a Y into the muffler and a 3" out in front of my rear tires.
According to magnaflows test this will equl to dual 2 1/2 setup.
As for the muffler I'm looking at the borla turbo or hooker aero.
I'll be ordering my mandrel bends so that I can start my setup ASAP!!

Good afternoon Marcelino!
I'm glad you got some use out of those threads!
If you're interested, there are some detailed photos of the Borla Turbo XLs being temporarily installed in #50 on this last page of this thread: Is it feasible to construct a temporary exhaust system?
Have an excellent afternoon Marcelino!

Good day Marcelino!
The only issue with the temporary exhaust I set up is that those flexible pipes leak badly. With the engine running you can hold your hand nearby them and feel the exhaust gases boldly pushing through the cracks along their entire length! I'll be very happy when they're replaced with real pipes.
And they served their purpose; it's much quieter than it would be without them installed, I'm sure.
Nice day today in California isn't it?
Have an excellent afternoon Marcelino!

Thanks! I was impressed with their build quality.marz68 wrote:Thats a nice borla!
Thanks for saying so, yet based on the extensive customizations you've done, I suspect that you could have done far better than I on the exhaust! Experience means a lot.marz68 wrote:looks like you did a good temp setup on your truck, I couldn't have done better my self.![]()
