Gas smell in the cab
Filled up the Goose today. About midday me and a coworker noticed the smell. Looked all over the cab, underside, and under the hood for the source but couldn't find it.
Seems the intensity of the smell is directly proportional to the amount of throttle I give it.
Any ideas?

It could be the rubber filler hose going to the tank is cracked.

Smartasses.
Seriously, are there fuel lines or otherwise that run from the bottom or the backside of the tank?

They all come pretty much out of the top or upper side near the filler. There are some pictures here...SoCalExile wrote: Seriously, are there fuel lines or otherwise that run from the bottom or the backside of the tank?

Usually what happens is that the fuel sloshes and leaks out of the seal on the fuel sender which is in the top of the tank. I thought the fuel smell was part of the Bumpside mystique...

Re: Gas smell in the cab
If it's throttle related then I would think it would have to be between the pump and the carb. If it's not a leak then it's likely coming from the filler neck or sending unit or seeping out of the cap when it sloshes around.
Honestly, Iv'e never been in a bump that didn't smell a little like gas, especially with a vented cap, full tank and the windows down.

Re: Gas smell in the cab
I would definitely check the little cork gasket on the top of the tank, and also the rubber filler hose. That was my same issue and I got it taken care of by replacing both. Let me know if you want it, but I have an extra piece of that filler hose. Its spendy at the parts store but I'll just ship it if you need it.

well if you have a emissions tank it could be one of the rubber hoses for the emissions lines to. http://www.fordification.com/tech/image ... ssions.jpg

VW Bugs were the same way with their filler cap under the front hood. :)DuckRyder wrote: I thought the fuel smell was part of the Bumpside mystique... :P
In their case I would make a leather seal that'd work good for a year or so.
Was also cutting rubber seals out of neoprene sheet from the hardware store
for my Dent, but found a thicker+better one in the "little-plastic-draw-isle". :)

Re: Gas smell in the cab
You say it smells like gas but could it maybe be crank case vapors? Reason I ask this is sometimes on my truck when I have been on the road a while and get on the throttle I will get a whiff of crank case gasses since I still have a pcv valve problem and you say it is proportional with the gas peddle.
