no fire?
the engine is all together and tried to start it today. NOPE. I'm getting no spark. The starter turns though, so I know I'm getting power. I know there is no spark because I I held the #1 plugwire away from the plug to see a spark and there was none. I can't find any broken wires anywhere or any disconnected. I have a brand new accel coil on the truck but also tried 2 spares that i know are good. Also, I may have my wire 180 degrees bakward. Is the #1 position on the distributor on the fwd left or the back right of the distributor? Thanks for the help.

Re: no fire?
#1 is 180 back and to the driver's side of center. Check the coil hot wire to check for spark.

Re: no fire?
even if you're 180 off, you should get spark if your ignition is working. Just because it ain't going where you want don't mean it ain't going. have you tried firing off the coil? that is, do a spark test but instead of a plug wire use the distributor end of the coil wire. It should fire to a ground. No fire there, you need to look at voltage or points.

Re: no fire?
well, changed the order of the wires and nothing.
i put the #1 wire straight across from where it was and then every other wire after but it cranks but won't start. any answers?

Re: no fire?
On my caps the number one plug is marked with a 1. I like to keep it that way and run the plug wires using a the right firing order instead of moving the wires around to get the order right. That probably doesn't make since. Some times when people stab the distributor 180 out they will move the wires around instead of re-stabbing the Dist.
Are you sure you have the Dist. in correctly and the right firing order on the wires?

Re: no fire?
when i set the engine at tdc i used the #1 piston (fwd pass side) then pionted the rotor at it. this is the correct way, right? i assumed the # 1 wire on the dist. would have been over the rotor but i think that is incorrect.

Re: no fire?
What was wrong with it? When you say you pointed the rotor towards the number 1 piston do you mean literally? Glad she runs
