Who has installed a mustang tank???
I have the tank and everything installed. What I am wondering is how is everyone venting there tank? The filler and cap I plan on using is not vented. I have thought about using just a brass nipple and drilling a hole in the back corner of the tank and brazing it in place and running a hose from there. I haven't done anything yet because I haven't figured out the best way to do it. How has everyone else vented there tank?

Install a barb fitting in the neck and run a vent hose off of it.

I have another question. What is a safe distance between the gas tank and tailpipe.
Thanks!

Re: Who has installed a mustang tank???
as long as there's air space there's no need for concern.
to close and you'll get a rattle.

Re: Who has installed a mustang tank???
Factory clearances have been less than 1/4 of an inch. The main thing about it beside the rattle by the time the pipe gets to the back it is not hot enough to set the fuel on fire. A friend of mine ran them about 6 inches apart dead straight out of the back of his 66 Stang about 1/4 off the bottom of the tank.

Perfect! I will have no problem with clearance then. I should be able to keep them a couple of inches away without a problem. Thanks For the help!

Re: Who has installed a mustang tank???
So I haven't finished the tank vent yet. If I install a barb fitting and run a hose off of it I think I should have a check valve on the end of it that will allow air in but not let fumes out. Does anyone know of a supplier for something like this. That does sound like a good idea right. I have searched a lot on this subject, but have not came up with the best idea yet.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Vent line should be run to a charcoal canister. The best idea is to run a vented cap.

Factory charcoal canisters had a check valve.

Yes, and when the check valve got corroded - no more vent and the truck would die at half tank, until you remove the gas cap. Don't ask me how I knowDragon wrote:Factory charcoal canisters had a check valve.

None of the Mustangs that I've owned has a charcoal canister, all had vented caps.

Re: Who has installed a mustang tank???
I was reading in another site that it was not a good idea to run a nipple with a hose because it would let out to many fumes in a garage. Isn't a vented cap going to let out just as many fumes as a nipple and a hose? I was thinking of using a chain saw style fuel filter on the end of the hose hidden up high to keep debris and bugs from getting in.
I am using a marine style filler in the bed floor. So a vented cap will not work and I am trying to find alternatives.
Thanks!

Re: Who has installed a mustang tank???
My 67 Mustang is in my garage with a vented cap and there are no fumes. Why are you so against running a vented cap?? Your truck HAS a vented cap on it now. Why will a vented cap not work on your set-up?9yrsmkn wrote:I was reading in another site that it was not a good idea to run a nipple with a hose because it would let out to many fumes in a garage. Re: Who has installed a mustang tank???
The reason a vented cap does not fill the garage with fumes is, it is not an open vent it allows air to enter and leave the tank only when the tank needs to pull fuel or when expansion from heat means air pressure build in the tank and must escape. It only opens to do this when there is enough pressure. Park over hot asphalt with an under car tank and after a few minutes smell the cap area and it will stink. I have watched the wavy air by a tank on hot days as the fuel cooks.
