No Fuel
Have 69 ranger f100,360 engine. The truck was driven daily for two years until about eight months when I took it off the road to redo the bed, always started every time and even after I took it off the road i started a couple times a week to move it so i could mow, started every time until about a month and and a half ago.Went out one day to start it, would'nt start, didn't seem to be getting fuel. Pulled the fuel line off the carb, sure enuogh no fuel. Installed new fuel pump, fired right up and started every time for the next three weeks. Went out this morning to start it, same thing, no fuel. I know the filter is not the problem as it screws into the carb and thats where I took the fuel line off to see that I am getting no fuel.Has anyone seen this before that might could shed some light? No it's out of gas it has half tank.
Thanks,Wilhay

Re: No Fuel
If you used a stock replacement pump for the engine it also has a fuel filter built into it that will catch any debris as they pass thru it. The small metal can looking housing on it that looks like a mini oil filter. These old trucks are extremely prone to rust inside the fuel tanks and lines just from sitting and the fuel evaporating over time and leaving a washed out area of raw steel or a galvanized area that over time will rust over quickly and produce a powdery form of rust that is easily washed to the bottom of the fuel tank with each additiobal addition of fuel and movement of the vehicle washing the rust off and allowing it to settle to the bottom of the tank.
Check the fuel pump filter itself first. Then the lines to the fuel tank........and if needed the tank itself. It's a simple system and not really all that hard to diagnose.
Try removing the fuel line at the pump that leads from the tank to the pump as well......no fuel there and either the tank is empty......a line is clogged.......or gravity no longer works.

Re: No Fuel
What kind of wrench does it take to get the fuel filter canister off the pump? I have tried getting those things off before with no luck, it's like they are welded on which I know they aren't.
Thanks

Re: No Fuel
I use a pretty large pair of channel locks on the very bottom rim where it is the strongest. Still have to grip carefully to avoid doing damage.

Re: No Fuel
If the truck has been sitting, maybe the fuel pickup line inside the tank has developed a hole and is sucking air.

Re: No Fuel
when doing this..is it required to depressurize the fuel system? or can i just unscrew the filter housing and replace the filter...TNIceWolf wrote:I use a pretty large pair of channel locks on the very bottom rim where it is the strongest. Still have to grip carefully to avoid doing damage.

Re: No Fuel
Just because it is a new pump does not make it a good pump. They don't make all parts as good as the old ones at all.
I use a strap wrench on the fuel and oil filters. I have one that uses a rubber strap and if that does not work I have a chain wrench that will get any filter off

Re: No Fuel
is it more of a gravity feed then? or is pressure only called upon when engine is engauged?

Re: No Fuel
it is a on demand system the pressure is only on when the enigne is running and the pump is sucking. there will be fuel in the lines but not at pressure when its not running.

Re: No Fuel
Hello Wilhay
I had the same problem with my truck. It ran great before I took it to school but when I went to bring it home from school over spring break bout 2 years ago because I didn't want to leave it there where people might mess with it. I hoped in it and went to start it, nothing, cranked it about 4-5 times still nothing. Made sure I had gas Check, pulled the fuel line coming from the tank to see it it was cloged, no clog. Pulled the line at the carb to see it fuel was getting up there nothing. Left the line off and cranked it a couple times still nothing. So took off down to the local Autozone on my bicycle bought a new fuel pump. Went back installed it and it ran for about 3 months and while I was driving home from work one day it craped out right as I was crossing rail road tracks.
Praying the track signals or gate wouldn't start flashing. I cranked it in second to get it off the tracks and called my dad to give me a tow home. Once I got home went through the same routine and the fuel pump again.
After a lil ranting and raving I took it back down and got a new one with my warranty. Installed it and it fired right up. Happened one more time after that must have been a bad batch the came into Autozone. Opps wait every thing they have is a bad batch.
