atomatic to manual swap..
i have a 72 ranger with a c6 auto. im debating on swaping to a 4speed manual. i kno i would need the pedal assembly and linkage parts. my question is, would this swap be worth all the work or how hard would i really be?

I would do it in a heart beat. Though I did not convert my truck the original configuration was 360 and C6 is now 390 and NP435

Re: atomatic to manual swap..
that depends on which transmission you put in. i think . but i am not sure that the C6 np435 and the t18 all have the same length driveshaft that were originally in our trucks. it may only be that the T18 and np435 are the same or the c6 and np435. i can't remember the conversation we had about that.

Re: atomatic to manual swap..
The C6 is usually too long. The t18, T19 and NP Series 415,425 and 435 are all the same length from the factory for Fords and larger trucks But Dodge and GMC used different input lengths. I have seen a cut down C6 for 4 WD that was close enough. Funny as a Ford tech I rarely had to work on trannies until the A4OD (Now called the AOD). Engines and Dana Rear ends got more work until the 1985 and up Rangers, explorers and so on.

Re: atomatic to manual swap..
I just did a E40D to a BW T-18 swap, with the tranny only reading 11,000 miles on the donor vehicles speedo, needless to say,its nice and tight.I cant begin to tell you how much better the truck feels, before,it was a slug of a ride,I mean,a six cyl.with a auto is not going to set no speed records,It would go,but you had to stand on it,and it would bogg way down before it down shifted on hills, not anymore, its actually feeling like a truck should feel when driving it,pulling power to spare,it gained 4 or 5 mph right off the bat, better gas economy,Im guessing 3 or 4 extra mpg,and it will actually spin the rear tires,if needed,up in granny gear,
it will chug its way up some very steep hills,I live in Panama, canal zone, not FL,red clay mud is everywhere, and its way slick, the old 96 F-150 feels like a whole different truck,Im very happy with my swap.If you want a pulling ass truck,go granny,if you want something your gonna lower, and street prowl, stay auto.I also installed a power trax no slip locker while I was at it,just to complement the granny trans,a 2WD. six needs all the help you can throw at it.all in all,I was thinking about selling it before, but instead,I made it into the ride I wanted, and now,Its staying put!!! Go for it,your gonna like shifting gears,I promise!!!!
