It worked when i got it, but when i took the cluster out to do some work, it just never stayed on from there. Ill do both, can i just buy a regular black battery cable and attach it too the block?

About 10 Awg is all you need. Most battery shops will sell it in bulk, flat braid and you put a end on one side for a #10 screw and one on the other end for 5/16/th screw size. The original braid went from the firewall on each side of the manifold to the firewall on FEs I don't know about 302 trucks other than they had at least one.

OR do as I did, I put a cable from the battery to the fender/radiator support bolt, From there I have a cable that goes behind the alternator to a bolt on the block Then from the coil mount on the manifold I ran a 10 AWG wire from that point to a screw on the firewall.

the straps on all the fe's i have seen went fromt he firewall to under the fuel pedal trapese linkage. that compleed the ssytem fromt he battery to the block and the block to the body. but ford missed one. to the frame. so one from the inner fender to the frame from a newer truck will work perfectly. look on the passnger side lower inner fender to the frame. right abotu where our vin numbers are on our frames. on the 80's and up trucks.
