Engine idling at 2200 RPM

I was driving home from work yesterday and all of a sudden my engine wouldn't idle below 2200 RPM. Any ideas? It was running fine before that.

Stuck centrifugal advance weights (or broken springs).

And you are surprised why, is your crystal ball somehow better than mine?

It just reminded me of piston return springs and how engines have a hard time decelerating when they are worn out.

Choke linkage fell apart and the fast idle dropped into place. If I purposely create a vacuum leak my engine does not rise to 2200 unless the my engine has the idle mixture screws out too far and then still they don't rise that much.

Advance your ignition at an idle to 30 degrees and the engine rpm won't rise that much. Been there done that.

Most times I find a stuck high throttle I find a wire or bundle of wires in the way under the dash or along the carb. Most times it has been the fast idle cam on the choke.

mine was a broekn clip on the throttle linkage. is was jambing up. it fell apart whiel i was messing with it. i put a new clip on the linkage and it works fine now.

If you don't find anything there though, take a look at the throttle pedal mount. I had one break just a little while back, that was still holding on at the bottom, but was pulled back at the top (pot aluminum too, who'd a guess it would bend like that). Anyway, that held mine open. As a temp "get me home" fix, I adjusted my linkage out longer at the carb (no trapeze on mine). Worked for all of a couple miles before it broke completely. Mind you mine didn't fail from being 40 yrs old, it failed from my trying to put it into the intake.
