White smoke.
When I rev the engine I look back and see white/grayish smoke. But only when I let off a second goes by smoke comes out then it will go away it doesnt smoke constantly just when I rev the engine as soon as it goes back to idle it will smoke. Oil pressure sits around 45 and I need to fix a vaccum leak in the carb from where the spacer hits the intake manifold. Any ideas?
Thanks

Re: White smoke.
do you have a water passage spacer or a plain spacer? my dads had a water passage spacer that cracked on him and it would loose a little bit of water here and there.

With the engine idling and at operating temperature, very carefully remove the radiator cap and watch for bubbles coming up to the surface of the coolant. I'm guessing you have an intake manifold gasket failure or a head gasket blown. Check your oil color and if it is starting to turn light or a grey color, you gotta coolant leak. Another way is when the engine has sat for a couple days, get under the engine and turn out the oil drain plug. When it gets to the very end thread and coolant runs out, you better not run it until you get it fixed.

if you have a coolant leak into the motor.. white smoke.. if it's not too bad... (after all normal things are checked) consider a little radiator stop leak or something thereof, to help prolong an old motor's life

Well if it's cold outside then it's just cold smoke. Mine does that too, and I have no leaks. Any vehicle does, mine does it for about 20 seconds while I first start it everyday in winter. Then stops.

This did it after I drove down the road back and forth a couple times. I know its not doing when its cold because it was like 71 degrees outside (southern mississippi)JMcTurnan wrote:Well if it's cold outside then it's just cold smoke. Where would I start to fix this?

Re: White smoke.
Some of you more experienced guys correct me if I'm wrong here...
Mine has been sitting all winter -sometimes not being started for 2 months. Here in FL the temps swing 30-50 degrees during the day this time of year.
I get alot of water and steam out the pipes until I take it for long drive. Condensation can form inside the engine as the temps change and humidity rises/falls.
I now start it once a week and the steam has largely stopped. Now just a very faint grey/white puff.

Could this be it because I never run the truck except maybe one or twice a month it recently sat for 6 months and started right up. Hmm maybe this could be it?
