Re: almost
If the float's stuck open it'll just dump raw fuel into the engine.

Re: almost
When I got the '67 it too had been in the weather without the hood. When I got it started it was blowing compression out the carb like you described. I pulled the covers and found two valves stuck open. Freed one up pretty easily with a rubber mallet, but the other one was stuck bad and it bent the push rod. I removed the push rod, doused the valve with PB, gently turned the engine to where the piston pushed the valve back up, turned the engine back, smacked the valve back down with the mallet, and repeated 'till the valve was freed up. Pretty shade tree I know, but once the engine was all dialed in it ran excellent.

Re: almost
I'm pretty sure I've seen the 2100's leak internally.
Are you smelling fuel? While turning it over does the engine sound like it has healthy compression? Is the spark a strong spark?

Re: almost
The 2100 does not leak internally except when the power valve is bad. Notice there are no gaskets between the base and body or the float bowl and the body. Check out Pony Carbs the foremost experts on Autolite Carbs.
All parts of the venturi section are above the fuel level except for the idle needles and you could back them all the way out and unless the engine is running no fuel comes out of them.
The only thing I don't like about the 4100/2100 is if you back fire you blow the power valve.

Re: almost
yea there is a gasket between the top and the body. they come in the kits you buy. i havent toched this used carb. it di backfire through the carb on the first attempt to start it. i am smelling fuel. that is why i think its getting too much fuel now. i really dont think its a timing issuse any more.

Re: almost
Can't hurt then to pop the top off and see what the float's doing.

Re: almost
well i took the top off and the fuel bowl was empty. i took the float out it wasnt stuck. i cleaned out the bottom of the fuel bowl with a rag. i couldnt find anything else wrong. while the top was off . i cranked over the enigne and the fuel pump didnt seem to be pumping fuel correctly. it seemed more hit and miss. now this is what i have.

Re: almost
Your fuel pump should pulse but each pulse will really spray fuel out of the needle area if you have the top off. Imagine necking that 3/8 line down to 1/8 of an inch It really shoots. Plus the pump can squirt from the drivers side all the way to the battery, stock, if you have the fuel line off.
Been there done that.

Re: almost
usually the fuel pump will flood the top of the intake when you take it off the carb and crank the engine oever. and this one did that. when the float was out it was just kind of sprinkling instead of raining. i think it was the fuel was the old fuel that was still in the fuel pump filter or lines maybe. and it ran dry when i thought it was finally primed. it was't my whole ordeal was i was out of gas basically.
