I'd go with the exhaust leak, even a loose nut at the collector, I had that and it sounded like the end of my 390 was near(er) haha

ok lets get serious here. a good description of where the noise is coming from will help pin point the problem. if it is a push rod or the lifters. you can take a rubber hose. or mechanics sthescope and listen to the valve covers and the noise will get lounder if it is the valve train making the noise. if it isnt the valve train then it could be something else. a exhaust leak can sound somethign like a pist pist pist. like: pist here you come here. kind of like air whistling almost. and it can be a similar sound to a valve train noise. other tinging type noises could be loose bolts on the flywheel. or torque converter nuts coming loose. those types of noises will be more tinny sounding. because they will hit the inspection late or other things.

other exhaust leak symptoms is you can see of smell exhaust gases in the enigne compartment. mroe strongly smelling than if they are just drifting from the rear to the front of the truck.

i covered how to check for valve train noises. to check for a exhaust dognut leak you can look at the dognut from all sides and underneath. you may be able to see the dognut cracked or broken. you may also be able to put your hand around (not on) the dognut area to see if you can feel any air blowing out at your hand while its running.

loose bolts nuts ont he flywheel torque convertor. you can remove the inspection plate on a auto matic transmission and use a screwdriver to turn the flywheel around and check the tightness of the four torque convertor nuts. and see if you see any metal scrapes on the tin cover. a loose flywheel bolt will probably only be found if you pull the trans or the enigne out to visually inspect for a loose bolt.

check those things. and give us a good description of what you find. if you cant get it fixed.
