Not easy, from what I understand. One of the truck mags did it, classic trucks or custom classic trucks, I think. And they had a hard time gettting computer components. Not plug and play like a Chevy LS, for example.

Do the Crown Vic front clip & it should be easy. Electronics are a bit sketchy, but i would think with a little effort, the donor computer/harness should be just fine.

I dont see why it would be that hard. pull all the smog crap and the wiring should be minimal. Now going through the stock wiring harness will be a pain but very possible.

I'm not a computer tehc ,but i think that you need all sensors /smog input to comp. for it to run properly :2cents:
I have '97 crown vic cop car parked next to '68 Galaxie 500 the 4.6 is at least as wide 390 :2cents:

Not to knock the 4.6, I think it's a pretty good engine, but I don't know about it in a pickup. The '07 F150 I drive has the 5.4 and even it's bit underwhelming.

But no, you cannot rip out any of the sensors in it, they are all designed to assist the engine to run properly. You leave any of them out at the very least the computer will default to 'limp home' mode and your mileage and power will be terrible.

The 4.6 in a empty 2005 F150 is a rocket. Put 1000 lbs of rock in the back and it is a turtle. Been there done that. The engine has no torque. The 5.4 will pull a lot of weight, I have driven a lot of company vans and expeditions for off road work and the 5.4 does not care about weight but it has no top end and bogs on hills. All the Vans were E350s and were loaded with electrical supplies, racks and tools. The Expeditions had maybe 600 pounds in them and going up hill at 75 on the highway they would lose speed. Now the Navigator 5.4 is a different beast they acted like the expedition at low speed and with the same 600 lbs they climbed the hills without barely slowing down.

You can bypass some sensors with resistors and some with capacitors. It has been done and the write up is somewhere on this site. It might have been done with the 5.0 but it was done showing how to bypass the sensors.

How would a 4.6 handle a hill pulling something at highway speed. (say 55)

On cruise control at 75 it slows down here on La Bajada hill to 55 unless you downshift. My 390 gets more gas but I can keep it at 75 without flooring it.

La Bajada is steep and long most Semis do 40 up it and you can pass cars that don't go ever 55 on it.
