New truck! Tune up/ Part upgrade suggestions?

Post by greasemonkey060 »

'67 F100 2wd 352ci w/4speed 9" w/ 3.25:1 gears.

As a new truck (to me) I plan on a doing an obligatory tune up- Cap, rotor, plugs, wires, points, condensor, Oil change and filter. And probably a coolant flush, fuel filter/ pump. And I'm sure I'll check over the electrical and brakes too!

Probably a newbie question to most, but anything a priority when I upgrade or update this truck?

I want to make it pretty roadworthy as I'm hoping I can use it on the 300 mile trips out the old ladies folks house.

Thanks again for the input!

Not sure what you are asking. If you tune it up and change fluids, grease everything, etc, you should be roadworthy. Of course check for worn out stuff.

Now, if you are asking about upgrade type stuff, then that's a different story. So far the best upgrade I've done to my truck is swap in a disk brake front end. The brakes are still non power, but it stops good and straight. Hopefully I'll get the rest of the parts for power steering rounded up before I swap in my 460.

Eliminate the points, Accel or Pertronix or Ford Dura spark. Cheap and reliable and stops the point wear and adjustment hassle every few thousand miles.

Fuel filter leave the pump alone. It might go 40 years and might go 1 with a replacement. I switched to Electric after two replacement pumps failed but the Ford stock had lasted 36 years if it was original, but it was Ford stock.

Brakes Brakes and Brakes. I checked all my shoes when I first got the truck and just needed 1 wheel replaced. Well two years later I found out that someone had turned the Left Front drum too thin. It shattered and my quick reactions saved the day. I now have 4 new drums, 3 new hoses, 4 wheel cylinders and all 4 shoes. I will dig back in them in 25,000 miles. Oh and a new Master cylinder.

Timing chain switch to a roller and some timing hassles will go away,
