Engine Paint Color

Post by moparmania »

Hi, I did a search but couldn't find anything. What year did Ford go from blue to black on their engine paint color?

Ford went to the black right in 1980-1981. Late 50's saw black with colored accents like air cleaners and valve covers. Early sixties had the light ford blue then 68-69 transitioned to the dark ford blue for the 70's then the black and gray 1980-81 to all ford gray by the 92's arrival. Hope this may help what motor you painting???

I have worked on Fords from 64 through 93 that I can remember and cannot remember a black engine. Did I just miss the years that were black?
I remember the gold valve covers and the different Ford Blues and the Grey. That is it.
Not saying you are wrong. I just can't remember working on a black for engine.
What years were they again?

I worked on old T-Birds and a Lincoln at one dealer and they had black engines. FEs after they hit the trucks were Ford Dark Blue as the cars converted just before that. I had a EDC 352 that was black from the factory and it was only that way for 2 days before I dropped the heads in the hot tank and sent the block to the scrap yard.
