date plate just below oil filter

Post by 72Highboy »

Hey there guys I was looking at info on FE engines and came across this website http://www.mustangandfords.com/techarti ... index.html.

It had some good info on FE engines and many things that are new to me because this is my first FE. I have a couple questions, but I am just sticking with the one that is the easiest. Well after reading this I went out to my truck and started cleaning the date plate off. This is what I came across, I have tried to figured out how to decode it but kept scrathing my head :hmm:. I hope this picture is good I will take another and post it if this one isn't clear to those who help. What else stumps me is the lettering above the plate. :dk:

All advice and input is appreciated

I have one also that I never figured out, but my block is stamped SPECIAL. I guess the Ford folks knew where it was going to end up and built a Special one just for me. One that could withstand all of my mistakes and learning! :D

 :yip: Ha Ha thats a good one,Same here just a Young Gun still learning about these FE so cheers to that :burp:  what is the code on yours, is it any close to mine?

I keep thinking to myself how cool it would be if mine is a special engine. Then I would definitly have one of a kind truck in EP Texas. I think if my mind recalls right :hmm: when I was replacing my clutch, flywheel, and trans I have a block that I can put hydralic lifters in. :D

From the sounds of it you have an advantage - age.. You have a lot more time to learn! I've killed to many brain cells to remember my own home phone #!

I'll be checking my date stamps on the block tomorrow for Crower Cams. I'll check around the filter area and see what we come up with.

Hawkrod has good info on this post: http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =3&t=46762

By his information, the W1 would indicate that your block was cast on the West line, 1st shift.

I saw a post on an engine website that said SPEC or SPECIAL means that it was a not yet finalized casting change.
