pertronix 1 wiring

Hello all -

I've looked at previous posts concerning this question, but I still need an experienced viewpoint.

According to pertronix instructions, you need 12v to the unit when ignition is on.

According to the print on my old autolite coil, the coil is to be used with an external resistor (the pink wire)

I think I need to tap into the wire from the ignition switch (before it hits the pink resistor wire) and run it to the pertronix, while still supplying my stock coil with the reduced voltage from the pink resistor wire.\

This way there is less chance of damaging the coil with too much voltage, while still providing the pertronix with enough voltage.

Is tapping into the wire to the coil (and supplying the pertronix unit with voltage)before the resistor going to reduce the voltage to the coil?

So on my 69 F100 did I screw up by attaching the Pertronix Ignitor directly to the coil?

That is how I did mine and it ran fine for 6 years.

may work fine just not the way it should be. The Pertronix should be getting 12volts
