emissions canister

would there be anything wrong in removing this? if not how far back can i disconnect the tube to the gas tank?

you can remove it. the gas tank uses that as the vent for the gas tank though. so you wont want to remove the line inside of the cab. you want to think about that line getting clogged up though. so cutting it off or removing the line at a certain point would need to take that into consideration. unless you could get a vented fuel cap for that tank. or a different tank.

my 70 i used to have didn't have either. a vented cap or emission line and i didn't have a problem with condensation. could i plug it at the tank?

As stated, the charcoal canister is the fuel tank vent. If you plug the lines going to it, you're going to have problems when the tank builds up vacuum as fuel is used up. Fuel will stop flowing to the carburetor once the vacuum reaches a high enough level...until you pop the gas cap and fill the void.

Now, having said that, if you want to remove the charcoal canister, you can....but then you also need to install the filler neck and vented gas cap from a non-vented truck, which includes any '67-'69 or '70-'72 F250/350. The reason you have to switch the filler necks is that the ones used with vented tanks don't accept vented caps. However, if you are able to find an aftermarket vented gas cap that fits the existing filler neck, then you can simply plug the line going to the charcoal canister and install the vented cap.

Yeah, I used to have a truck that didn't run too! LOL Sorry but that was too easy. Your 70 had a vented cap or an emssion line or you had to have a hole in the tank or it would not run. A lot of people find this out the hard way when they install and unvented cap on an unvented tank or their cap vent gets plugged because you usually can only drive a very short distance before the truck dies. There has to be a vent or the fuel pump can't overcome the vacuum created in the gas tank and your carb runs out of gas even though the tank is full and the gas pump is working. You can remove the hose under the cab but, as noted, you need to make sure it goes someplace protected where it won't filled with road debris and where a wasp won't go and make a nest in the tube and plug it (seen that one a lot too!). Or as Kieth noted just change cap and tube. Hawkrod

Ore you could just leave the charcoal canister in the truck. It's not going to hurt performance.
