No, it's not.

...unless, there is a crack in the fuel line which looks like passes under your distributor.

Are you sure it's fuel and not engine coolant?

Does it smell like gasoline?

If it is gas, then you have something that could be dangerous with it squirting near the distributor.

Just the fact you already haven't had a fire leads me to think it could be coolant.

Again, does it smell like gas?

What he said.

And keep your fingers away from the fan.

I think I'm going to have to post a video of this... I'm going to try and do so this weekend and post it on YouTube. I'll post the link on this thread.

You all are all-knowing & awesome. :fr:

I'm trying to think back now... and I don't think it did smell like gas but it's hard to remember. I'll get some video of it and see if I can isolate it a little more. It very well could've been coolant.

Is there a coolant line that runs under/around the dist cap?

Thanks!

Why not just clean the manifold where the leak is happening, and then watch what happens after driving it? At least you'll be able to figure out if it's oil from a bad distributor O-ring or leaky coolant hoses. However, if that's all from one leak, it's not the O-ring....there's oil that gets splashed up there, but nothing under pressure to actually squirt oil, even if the O-ring was completely missing.

Until you clean things up and then run the engine, this will continue to be a guessing game.

Hey Bonnie_72_F100

Looking at the first two pics...
The hose that passes under your dizzy is the vacuum advance hose...
It goes from the pot on the dizzy to the carb... but isn't a fuel line.
There are two places where coolant could spray on yer engine in those places.
Right in front of the dizzy, there is a very short rubber hose... if it is cracked or has a hole in it it would definately spray right there and could spray as far as you indicate in your discription...
The other place is the piece of rubber hose that is coming from the front of the the engine, near the theromostat housing, and going to the plate under the carb.
That could have a leak in it and would work the opposite way. It would probably spray to the area right in front of the carb and run down to the dizzy... from the look of the pic that piece looks pretty corroded and there is a good deal of rust on the manifold under it.
With the engine running it could appear to be spraying from the first spot.
What the guys and myself also see is that there is some oil seepage around the dizzy... that is from the dizzy "o" ring... but it can't spray just seep a little oil out.
Yes, you can keep the dizzy...
Before you pull it, remove the cap and check to see where the rotor is pointing and mark it before you pull the dizzy so when you replace, you can get it back in the same place.
It's really a pretty easy job...
It's a whole lot easier than replacing that little piece of hose...
That is best replaced by pulling the water pump... which isn't to bad...
I found that it is a lot easier to do that than try to fight getting that little piece of hose on with the water pump on ... I'm not even sure you can do it right with the pump on.

Good luck,

:x WTF was Ford thinking with this little hose between the water pump and the engine. Mine's blowing up like a balloon, and I'm thinking there is no way I want to pull the pump housing, a/c and what ever else is connected off to replace it.

This great song mentioning a flatbed Ford was released on May 1, 1972, the band’s first single. 72 was a good year, ah yes.

find out what the substance is.. does it smell like gas? stick your finger in it.. is it clear?

what i would recommend is familualizing yourself with how your fluids smell and feel.. antifreeze is slippery almost like oil but has a disticnt smell different than that of oil. So, if you have clean oil sometimes just the look of it on your finger its hard to tell it from antifreeze other than smell... power steering fluild has a hydralic fluid smell to it and so does tranny fluid... Fuel has its obvious smell which you likely have experienced while refueling..

I'd be almost willing to be that the hose in your picture is spraying antifreeze/water up on the carb and everywhere.

Make sure it isnt gas by the odor of it.. If it isnt... turn on your truck and carefully (without your face too close) look to where its coming from.. With the amount of fluid that is showing in your picture It will probably be pretty apparent where it is coming from.
