My 360 is spitting from ~ below the distributor cap and spitting up towards the carb. The quantity is not a lot but it is a steady spit. Is there a relatively simple way to remove the dist cab and replace whatever seal may be broken? I know the cap is simple to remove but what about the guts inside/below it to reach the "point of spit"?
I've attached two pics.
Thanks!

Does this carb look clean enough to you all? I was going to remove it because of the idling issue I've been having (rev's up on its own then shuts off) but it looks pretty clean to me...
I'm thinking that the spitting question (#1) could be a more urgent problem (and explain the revving high then shutting off) moreso than getting the carb cleaner.
Take a look and let me know what ya'll think.
Thanks guys.

Great day in the morning! You need to do some maintainance!
The blue round thing is the charcoal cannister. Just leave it alone.
Now what is "spitting"...? Spark? Flame? Oil?
I'd replace the cap, rotor, plug wires and maybe even the distributor itself just as a PM issue.
Start soaking the dist where it goes into the engine with WD-40 or some other kind of penetrating oil now, then take a couple of days to round up your parts.
O'really's or NAPA should have a good price on the distributor.
Now, do you now how to replace the distributor and set timing?
You will have to remove the distributor and replace the O ring seal on the distributor base, (you are talking about oil spitting).
# 2 looks like emission vapor canister, my guess.
Carb looks ok to me, if it is running fine i wouldn't bother it.
Sounds like o-ring on the dist where it seats on the intake, should be a easy fix, any good parts house should have one. Just be real careful when pulling the dist that pieces of the o-ring don't fall inside. Watch out that the oil pump shaft doesn't fall to the side either, that happened to me once.
sorry, yes, i meant spitting fuel. I don't know that there is any damage to the dist itself... is it possible to remove the dist, replace the o-ring and reinstall the same dist?
Yes. More maintenance is definitely needed overall. I'll take the to leave the carb alone if it looks ok to ya'll.
Thanks guys. I'll keep you update on replacing the o-ring.
Oh yeah... charcoal. Interesting. I only asked because you may be able to see in one of those pictures that the tubes to/from it are all broken/rotted off.

Woah. Hold the phone.
If it's spitting fuel you need to look at the carburetor and/or the fuel line.
Is there a rubber hose between the fuel pump and the carb...?
Is the fuel line tight going into the carb? Is it stripped out?
get a flash light and see if you can see it . if you cant see it then if its small enough it might come out when you change the oil which will be as soon as you get done putting the dist back in. if its too big then you might be ok but i wouldnt drive it with a bolt in the pan.

I'm pretty sure it's fuel, not oil. It's too thin to be oil. I'm 99% sure there is a line between the carb & fuel pump and it's tight going into the carb but I did not check the tightness going onto the fuel pump. It's definitely not leaking @ the carb, but I'll check the link to the fuel pump tomorrow when the sun comes out before removing the dist base.
Is it possible for fuel (not oil) to spray out from under the dist base due to a broken o-ring?? I'm clueless, I have no idea what goes on under the dist base!
no fuel can not spray from the dist at all. it is ot even close to the fuel of the intake. it would have to come from a fuel line or the carb. it looks like to me the power valve is wet on the front bottom of the carb. that would be a fuel leak or spray. while in park and the enigne running rev the engine up and see if it sprays fuel out from that carb area.
