Just curious what sort of new cams folks have put in their bumps...what you've had good success with and which ones to avoid.
At this point, here's what I'm batting around....nothing firm yet...still developing the plan
- new carb (holley 4 bbl?)
- new intake manifold
- new headers
- new cam and if required, other top end goodies
ITargert use for the truck is daily driver, good hauler when needed, don't foresee much towing, good gas mileage..
Thanks for your seasoned input!

I would go for the 390 They get the same milage and the 390 will way outperform the 360

Thanks, hotrodffeguy. I've got to look into that, see if that's something I want to tackle.hotrodfeguy wrote:I would go for the 390 They get the same milage and the 390 will way outperform the 360

Its the same block just swap out crank rods and pistons. Or look for one done or in good shape

Re: New cam suggestions - 360
If you go 390 and you wanna do it on a budget, find a 390. The 360 will have worn the cylinder walls some, causing a ridge at the top of the wall. The 390 swap will cause the piston to travel higher in the cylinder, hitting that ridge with each stroke. I haven't heard others mention it, but I know it can't be conducive to a long lasting engine. You could get new 390 pistons and have the block bored the necessary amount to straighten the cylinder walls, which might be necessary no matter what. Depends on the amount of wear on the 390. Would definitely have to be done on the 360 block to get rid of the ridges to convert to a 390.
