1979 400 vs 1968 360
So from what I've gathered a 1979 400 was kind of overwhelmed with pollution control stuff. How do you think it compares to a 68 360 as far as performance and fuel milage in pretty stock form?

Hello there dont know much about these engines still new and learning,
I was looking up information on my engine I got a 72 F100 w/ a 360 I think it rocks I have gone through 3 top radiator hoses because the engine flexs the frame and tilts so much.
That or I got a broken motor mount
but I came across a website with some helpful info maybe it can do some for you.

If I was to pick between the two even though i am a FE guy, I would pick the 400. Reasons for this the 4" stroke(400) vs 3.5" stroke(360) is very nice in a truck, you wont need as much gear with that much stoke/torque. Reason two the heads are better(400/351m) in they are poly angled and more efficient more up to date sort of speak. But the 400 has a flatop bellhousing pattern be aware.

Another good read on a 400 build. http://www.fordmuscle.com/members/archi ... dex2.shtml
When my 360 in my F250 4X4 was worn out, I dropped a 400 in my truck. I was getting 7 mpg with the 360 and get 10-12 with the 400. This is with 4.11 gears.
