oiling!

Post by jhndrrus »

im heading out to my garage in just a moment to start modifying my oil galleries. its a hydraulic lifter '64 HO 390 bored out to a 427. i read about drilling the oil pump to filter gallery out to 7/16''. do i need to do this through the main gallery to? should i drill out the mains supply gallerys from the cam?? i'm asking because the literature i have doesnt give a specific size to drill those 2 deals. i know the mains starve themselves but does the factory hole to them suffice after i get the bigger oil pump and filter adaptor? i'd also like to know what exactly this restriction is in the back of the block or even if i have it before i go knocking plugs out? i was kinda guessing that the cam & lifters get plenty of oil in the first place, but should they be modified a little to? im all ears fellas.

2nd problem...as im drilling through cast my drill bits locking up! thats kinda bad. i know i dont have the strongest bit ever but it works. i wonder if i need a certain type of bit just for drilling cast? im thinking my cutting edge is to steep so im going to try to make it a little flatter/sharper. is that all i need to do? now if you find yourself thinking why doesnt this guy just ask a machinist all these question...i already have. hes not really familiar with FEs.

I hope you're using some kind of anti-galling oil...
