any idea on serpintine belt

Post by Nickabocker »

good mourning,

This mourning i got a call from my twin brother asking me a question about the serpentine belt on his truck.... he says for a while, since he replace the belt in his truck the belt has been rubbing on another part of his belt...

here is the setup a 1993 chevy with a 350 i be leave. he says the belt tensiner seems to be forcing his belt to rub on another part of his belt. i told him he had the wrong size belt on there but then again i wasn't sure. This mourning he replaced the tensioner and it is still doing this any ideas

The tensioner should have an arrow or other mark on it that points to a scale. When the arrow is outside of the scale the belt has stretched and requires replacement. If a new belt places the arrow outside of the scale it is not the correct belt.

Had a GF once who had a "mechanic" work on her car. He must have put the wrong replacement belt on. Couldn't figure out why it kept chewing up belts. I looked at it and found out that the belt that was last on it was the wrong one (too long), so he moved the position of the tensioner to take up the slack. That put everything out of whack and the belt was burning up because it was rubbing on an accessory bracket.

Most vehicles have the belt routing diagrams under the hood.

302/c4/3.50
81 F-100 Long Box 2wd
460/c6/3.00
92 F-150 Lariat 4wd
302/auto couldn't go wrong for $500

:hmm: :nono:
I don't think he is. If he was, than I think he would have noticed that it was the wrong belt.
