Re: hardship strikes
Cdeal hey with 3.0s with that 460 how's ur acceleration? Do u still get a bunch of tire smoke and the feel of torque or just the feel of a tired truck?

Re: hardship strikes
The 3.0s if the 460 breaks them loose from the pavement will smoke like crazy. The engine will have enough torque to keep the loose until you let off the throttle. It will appear slightly sluggish but will get better mileage than with the 3.5s.
My 390 when in better shape with 3.73s will out run it because I can put more torque to the ground and I will rev through the gears faster. My 390 will smoke the right rear now that I don't have posi. When I did have posi I needed water or a sharp turn to get the tires to break and then I would spin them so fast that I would hit 4800 before I could ease up. That is why my truck is not in better shape, over-revved it. The 460 stock has 250 HP and 400 ft-lbs of torque in the injected years I had 325hp with my car engine stock and 427 ftlbs of torque.

Re: hardship strikes
A local fellow here has a sand dragster with a somewhat modified real 69' BOSS 302. He has the dyno sheets to prove 950 naturally aspirated horsepower somewhere around 10K with a sorta unlimited redline of 12K+ RPM. His heads were hand built by some nobody named austen coil and his pocketbook is VERY deep. I have a profound respect for engines like that, but do realize EACH cylinder head on an engine like that was in the range of 25-$30K. In the defense of the Boss 302, this fellows engine was running a real, run the living piss out of 1969 Boss 302 block and crankshaft. Also realize this motor made 450 lb/ft around 9000 RPM.
Something like that in a truck would utterly suck. A friend of mine did swap a Boss 302 into an early in the late 70's, says it was quite the crazy, difficult to drive ride. He sold it to a kid who piled it up the next day.
460 is a fine choice for a truck.

Re: hardship strikes
It looks to be a copy of the Torker from Edelbrock. The single plane torker did pull passive torque at low rpm and still breathed into 6500 rpm range. The runners start out real tall and taper down smoothly for a great increase in velocity. It is from their early days about 15 years ago. They could care less about anything less than 1995 according to their website.
The intake has a Head casting number on it and it only fits Boss 302 heads.

Re: hardship strikes
If i was you i would go for the 302 build. Of course a 460 would have more power it is a horse power and tourque 460 has 4.36 bore, 3.85 stroke 250 HP and 400 ft lbs of torque (got them numbers from a book i think it is liein.)and a small block ford 302 will have 225 hp at 4,200 rpm and 300 lb-ft of torque at 3,000(from the same book). But look at the income for that easiest way is to show this way 4bbl intake (from summit)460 Weiand 802- $219.95. Then for a 302 Weiand 8020- $165.95. That is the same intake the price is different and that is only one part. So for you money 302 is better.

I still think it costs more to get power out of a SB then a BB. Say a 500 hp build out of each. You could do that with more stock parts on the 460 then the 302.
