Hey I am new to this sight and to owning my first car. I have just recently purchases a 1972 f100, with 103,000 original miles and although the 390 it has in it now is running strong I am going to eventually put in a 4 barrel carb and a new intake. Since i have not been around these trucks nearly as long as some of you guys, I thought i would pose the question to you. What carb set-up should i use, just for everyday driving, 600 cfm, 650 cfm, 700 cfm, dual quads, three duels.
p.s. keep in mind i would enjoy having some gas mileage, it doesn't have to be great, but some at least

Yes welcome.hazelnut wrote:
You don't say where you are, but if you can find one the best way to go about this if you don't plan performance modifications it to just find a FORD "S" factory 4V manifold. Its nothing special but the "S" is generally considered to be a little better than a "T". (You will find an "S" or a "T" cast into it near the other numbers) A good used (hard to find) or quality rebuilt AutoLite 4100 (Holley of Pony Carbs?) is a great street carb. Failing that a Holley vacuum secondary in the 650CFM range would be a good choice.
The Edelbrock performer aluminum manifold will do if you can't find a stock one or you back can't take lifting the 80 lb thing on there...
I'm sure the Edelbrock... errr... Carter... errr... Weber... carb fans will be along shortly...
