engine swap

Post by choptoptruck »

OK, I'm a newbie here so be gentle!!
I just bought a 69 Ranger thats been sitting for 15 years. This thing is in pretty good shape. It has a 360, automatic in it, but I want to put in a good running 302, C-4 out of a Granada in it.
I know I need the motor mount stands, but do I need a different transmission crossmember? How about the column shift linkage? Is the driveshafts different lengths? Different yolks?
I'm pretty new to Fords and I was wondering if there would be a problem hooking up the Granada distributor to the 69 wiring.
What do you think would be a good gear ratio in the rear end? It's going to be mostly highway miles.
Thats all I can think of right now. I really appreciate the help!!
Thank's!!!

You can move the tranny cross member to new holes. Linkage find a truck with a 302 and auto.Is it a long or short bed truck, 2 piece or 1 piece driveshaft.

What year is the Granada. Though It will be dura spark or TFI you move the module over and wire it in to the truck.

Rear end ratio depends on what you are going to do with it.

I made the same swap into my 67 about 5 years ago. The donor was a 77 Granada 302 C-4.
I left the origional FE frame towers in place and never had vibration or u-joint problems.
I did discover later, while attempting to install a fan shroud, that the fan was to high to fit
into the shroud. I swapped my radiator to get smaller inlet and outlet, so I could use stock hoses
from a 69 with a factory 302. I also swapped the left side Granada exhaust manifold for one
with an outlet that pointed more downward than backward. I saved the Granada Y pipe and
cut and welded it to the 352 pipe. The 302 and C-4 are a lot shorter, none of the pre-drilled frame
holes work. I drilled new crossmember holes forward of the factory holes. I have a 2 piece
driveshaft and had to junkyard a longer front shaft. I fabricated an extension to the lever on
side of the C-4, then extended and bent the shift rod so the column shift worked correctly.
I used the duraspark, don't hook it up to the calibrated resistor wire comming fron the key,
I think it needs a full 12 volts. I don't tow or haul so 3:73 gears work great. 302s don't have
as much torque as an fe, you probably would not like tall gears. Good luck!

i have read on here i believe that using FE motor perches will sit a 302 about an inch higher. sounds like it isnt a prblem except possibly with the shroud and fan, good info, son is doing the same with a 67 FE to 302, daddy is keeping the FE for a transplant in my 65 cyclone...love the FE motors, good luck with the swap
