Does anyone have the stock timing specs for a 72 FE 360? It was mentioned to me that maybe we should "sticky" a thread with timing specs. Anyone?

Don't need sticky, FEs love advance. Stock is 6 on most FEs I use 10 on my high compression 390. They will run and start with 12 to 14 but I never recommend over 12 except for racers. 12 works great FEs wake up and run when you get above stock settings and always start good.

Could anyone enlighten me as to the timing specs for a 352 in a '67 Ford F100? I found 6 degrees BTDC but I
need to know the rpm and if in neutral or Drive (it's an automatic). Thanks. Mark

I like 12* BTDC at 800rpm on FEs (you found the right thread). 8* is the lowest I'll go and if there's any issues, 10* is a happy spot.

Alrighty then! Now, since it's an auto, neutral or drive - I'm guessing neutral given the 800 rpm

Thats another good question whitesmoke... When timing the engine, would this be done in neutral or drive?

depends on how much you trust the person holding the brake :lol: or you like playing speedbump, no need to have the truck in gear. unhook the vacume advance then setting the timeing. :thup:

Never in drive always in park/neutral.

Here is one for you. The carb does not put out advance vacuum until there is air flow caused by a load. I quit pulling the hose many years ago and unless you rev the engine over 2000 I never get a vacuum reading on the port. So at an idle I just time the engine.

I really need a dwell meter...Ill get one soon, but in the mean time I checked the timing as is and it seemed to be advanced pretty far. The marks were almost invisible except for a single white line. I assumed maybe this was TDC, and the timing was advanced about an inch away from that mark...what would look like 10 or 12 degrees. I cleaned up the marks with a wire brush and cleaner and removed the white line. Once I could see the marks I found that the white line was actually marking about 6-8 BTC. So, it seems that the timing was actually advanced quite a bit beyond that...Id have to say beyond 14 degrees easily. I sprayed the area black, used an exacto knife to brighten up the scribe marks and reset the timing at 10-12 btc. I didnt gap the points, but I plan on waiting until I get a dwell meter to do that, then I'll re-time the engine.
