Post by quantumleap »

i have a holley carb and noticed it kinda fills up with fuel when the engine is off..the longer it sits the more LOADED it gets....now if i park at a slight downhill its not as bad as when i park on a slight uphill slope to start. :help:

First off, is your tank venting? If you drive it a while, come in and park it, then take off the fill cap, does it release air pressure?

If so, grab a vented cap.

If not, have you tried dropping the floats a touch?

LOL take your list number off the carb (list-1850 id most 600s) Go to holley's site and do search on list number. When the carb comes up you can get the PDF for the carb and it will shock you haw easy it is to adjust the floats. MY carb is a 750 VS EC list 80508S.

Yours since is is manual choke is most likely a 600.

The screw and nut on the top of each float bowl is the float adjustment, the screw on each float bowl on the passenger side is the sight hole. With the engine off you open the sight holes. If fuel comes out it is too high. If the threads at the bottom of the hole get slightly wet you are good no gas visible you are too low. Loosen the screw about an 1/8 of a turn, That unlocks the nut turn clockwise to lower the fuel level counterclockwise to raise the level. You do not have to be running if the float is too high. You do if it is too low.

You can have a serious engine fire if you are running the engine and gas is coming out of there.Be Careful. Never had a Ford or Chebie catch but a 440 Mopar went boom. The dizzy was leaking spark and is tipped over and on the passenger side of the head. After we put the fire out we looked for the ignition source and found a crack in the cap from a terminal down to the base that is where the arc came from.

Top line and 2nd line. If the carb was stock to a Ford it had the 1st line as a Ford part number with the list number under. The 3rd line is a date code. So just get the top two lines and post them here we will spot the correct one. On my 750 the list is the 2nd line.
