tacky ford

Post by timmytim »

Okay guys I got me a cool tachometer for my 70 pickup and got it mostly hooked up works good. My problem is I need to hook its light up to the trucks lights.Anybody know a easy way without splicing the factory wires? if not I will cut them but I dont really want to.. truck only has 37k miles on it...

Get a bullet connector Male end to match that on your lighter (or other connector in circuit)...... and one female. Make a "Y" harness to plug back to the lighter's light and the other to go to the tach.

The LIGHT connector, not the lighter connector................ if you don't have one there, there's one on your controls, several in your IP. Anything that lights up when the lights are on.

Your lighter might not have a light I guess, but there's several other locations to do the same thing.

Was referring to the LIGHT on the lighter, but I suppose yours may not have this.

Like I say, if it doesn't, it's the same connector on the heater controls, and many other places to make the same "Y" harness.

The one at the heater controls might be the easiest then. If memory serves, it's greyish blue with a red stripe, but I'd suggest checking the schematics on the site if you don't see it looking down at the controls through the radio opening.

Too much effort. Go to the light switch find the correct wire for light dimming and use a scotchlock. That is what that link shows you a scotchlock.

Easy Go here http://www.fordification.com/tech/wirin ... master.jpg Wire 19, 19A or 19b/c is the dimmed wires. Look in the 1969 Master diagram and you find a color chart and number crossover here Blue Red wire at position C
http://www.fordification.com/tech/wirin ... rpanel.jpg

Scotchlock look inside of it. One side goes all the way thru the other stops. You put the Red/Blue stripe wire in the side that goes through. You put the tach light wire in side that does not go anywhere. The metal tab is squeezed down onto the wires with a pair of pliers. Then the plastic flap closes over the top and snaps shut. If it does not snap shut the metal tab is not squeezed down far enough.

No way to scotchlocks, they are the bane of auto electric systems and should be illegal.

On pretty much all the '60's and '70's Fords a light blue wire with a red stripe is the instruement lighting. You can't find a spare female plug under the dash you can buy two pairs of male / female plugs and using the two females and one male make a jumper and then hook you tach into the new extra female. That way you can unplug your tach when you do more work on the interior.
