Re: 2 stroke oil
Shouldn't be a problem, as long as it hasn't been opened and you mix it right.
Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools talk because they have to say something.--Plato
Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???
That's not an oil leak
That's SWEAT from all that HORSEPOWER!!

Re: 2 stroke oil
Why risk a high $$$ saw on some old oil?
Jeepers, spend the $1.50 for a new bottle of oil or risk $150 for a jug kit on the saw?
As 70 says, it shouldn't be an issue but...

Re: 2 stroke oil
Use it in a Mac. Ain't no saw but what it's a yellow saw. Let's put it this way, I found an old metal can full of Conoco 20W20 so old it was rusting on the outside sufficiently to leak at the seam. Let me clarify what I mean by 'can'. Not a metal bucket, but one of the old cans with a pour spout that you use for a gas can when you empty it. I've been using it in the crankcase of my lawn mower with no ill effects. Just consider the speed of the engine you're using it with. I'd not use it in the stihl, as that's a 10 or 12 thousand RPM engine. The additives may not be right for something that fast. Mac runs 6 or 8 thousand. Lesser two strokes maybe slower. Consider it's also intended for richer mix (if it's a steel can before 1975) as saws all used to run 40:1. Plus if it has broken down a little (which I doubt) having it in something that takes a richer mix guarantees you lubricity.
Myself I'd use it, unless it was a can of McCulloch brand oil, at which point it would go on my shelf of Mac stuff.

Re: 2 stroke oil
I have never seen a 4 stroke that required premix, that is a 2 stroke thing. So, yeah if they require premix then 2 stroke oil is what you need to use...
(Now watch somebody will come up with some obscure 4 stroke eastern block somthing or another that was build for 2 weeks in 1877 and gets oil mixed with the gas...and call me all kinds of names in PM's)

Also with supercharging or a dry motor, 1 pint motor oil per 12 gallons gasoline. Don't get me started on diesel chainsaws....
Old two strokes ran 16:1 with straight motor oil. McCulloch 4-30A for instance.

I stand corrected and I have no idea what kind of oil you would use in it, I would use what ever they said to use were I to have one which I won't...
