369/390 question

Hey guys. I changed my gameplan on my 68 F250. I decided to rebuild the 360 I have as a 360 since the 390 crank is messed up. The heads for the 360 are usable but have 3 broken exhaust studs in them and have a bit of rust on the outside and in the water jackets that would need cleaning up. The 390 heads are in much better condition overall. What I am wondering is can I use the 390 heads with the 360 motor that I build as a 360? I was thinking it might cause a problem with the motor running or something. Thanks for any input.

I would have the crank turned and run a 390 given the choice between 360 and 390. They give you the same MPG(not that the FE does well there) but the power/torque of a 390 is alot better. The heads are the same item between the two. also the truck piston in a 360 is the same as a 390 car. Only thing you would need would be 390/410/428 rods to make it a 390.

Hey Hotrodfeguy. Thanks for the reply. I'd like to do the 390 but the crank i've been told is beyond turning due to the one connecting rod hitting it. The 360 is in good shape as far as I can tell. I am looking to just rering the pistons and replace the connecting rod bearings and put it back together. I don't have a lot of money to spend on this and I'm trying to get it running hopefully soon. I've already bought the master gasket set. I jsut need to get the rings and bearings now. The truck will be a daily driver/weekend play truck.

the 390 heads are the same as 360 heads. i thought in order to make a 410 you had to use 428 rods with a 390 crank.

360/390 heads are the same. google search FOrd FE , you will find a really cool book on it.

A 410 is a 390 Bore with 428 crank. A 406 is a 428 bore with 390 crank.
