Help! 460 wont go in straight

Post by DCmirk »

I did a search on these forums and found a little info but not what I needed.

I took the worn out 352cui out of my 67 F250 and have since installed 460 perches from a dentside in my truck. They bolted right in perfectly. However when I try to sit the engine on them, it will not line up perpendicular in the truck. Its crooked. Badly crooked. The tail of the transmission is cocked over to the passenger side frame rail. I can provide a picture.

Question:
I read people post that the 460 perches need to be in the "Front mounting holes" but my 67 F250 only has one set of holes drilled for these. There are no more holes. None. How do I get my engine straightened out? I am very scared that I may have just spent nearly $1,000 on parts, exhausted nearly 20 hours of labor, all in vain.

Good morning DCMirk,

I'm sorry to hear that you're having this issue! I know how frustrating it can be to try to adjust the attitude of a heavy engine and transmission.

As you're probably thinking, it sounds like something might be bolted together incorrectly. If the aft end of the transmission's up against a frame rail that's an extreme misalignment, needless to say! Some quality photos would be telling.

When you do resolve the major alignment issue and get it somewhat close, you may be interested in reviewing Jamie's advice on fine-tuning it in this thread: FE and T18/C6 mounts from Autofab, plus frame alignment.

I hope things work out for you soon!

Thank you RobRoy!!

Here are the pictures you asked for. Is the passenger side engine mount too far forward? I dont remember seeing a second set of holes that it would fit in when I was installing it, but now I see there does appear to be a couple holes further back. Does that look right to you? I just dont know.

I believe there is another set of holes on the passenger side, so you can move it back a couple inches.. I see one hole, it's a square. the other is probably covered up under the engine mount.
