83 302 with electronic timing

Post by indy67 »

Hi everyone in the forum, I need your advise
I have an 83, 302 engine with carburator and electronic timing, how can I convert this to manual timing.
also, can I use a regular manual choke type carburator on this engine?
I'm removing all the smog parts
thanks to all of you who are willing to share your knowledge with all of us who don't have much on these old trucks

By electronic timing do you mean electronic (Duraspark II) Ignition? As in no points. And by manual timing to you mean with points? If the answers are yes than you can get a points distributor and coil and install it and remove the Duraspark II stuff including the module. I don't know why you would want to because the Duraspark II is much better (as in little to no maintenance and hotter spark) than points. As for the manual choke carburetor, yes you can use it. No problem there.

Thank you both for your advise
Yes the distributor has an electronic component on the side instead of an vaccum line also an electronic line that runs down to the timing pulley so it gets adjusted automatically I guess by the computer.
no I don't want to go to points , I just want to know the correct ditributor, and control unit. I respect very much your advise and thank you in advance

You have an an early edis type systems systems tied to TFI. True EDIS uses multicoils. You can buy a standalone module drive it and then you will have even better timing control and hotter spark the Duraspark II. For Duraspark II you get the dizzy, module for the fender and the harness.
