Forgot something on my motor...

Post by OldRedFord »

I forgot to put a valley pan in under my intake on my motor. Will I hurt anything without it? Or do I need to pull the intake?

I ran a 390 for 40K or so without one, didn't notice a difference.

the valley pan does many things from what i have read. i cant name them all. the one thing i do know it is to stop oil from getting straight onto the intake bottom and baking on there. which from what i understand can be bad for performance on the motor. would i put mine back on? yes i would. but i am picky.

I'd hate to put your like new 460 back in without a part that COULD potentially do some harm. You'd regret the lazyness in the end. I wouldn't want the feeling of knowing that you have left the pan out while driving it around and putting miles on it.
I'd have to convince myself to pull it all apart again, although that is no fun. When you are done you'll feel better.

Some gasket kits don't include it for a 460. My Felpro did not and I didn't feel right using the old one. My 460 has runs fine. I blocked the exhaust crossover on my intake though so it stays cooler.
