Mercury Tall Script Valve Covers

Post by leavittt »

A few days ago me & my brother were checking out the new shipment of Fords at the local junkyard looking for a 31 splined 9" when we came across these. They were stuck in a 68 Ford F100 2WD longbed- Mercury script style valve covers. We had never seen a pair before at the junkyard and they looked to be tall enough to fit aftermarket rocker arms under them so we decided to take them home with us. They charged us only $10 so we thought we got a pretty good deal-especially since there were no dents on them. Anyway, I was wondering what FE Mercury motors came with these valve covers? Obviously they aren't original to the truck so I thought there might be a pretty good chance that the whole engine might not be original. Was there ever a 410 or 428 with these valve covers on them? I'm not too knowledgable with the old Mercury cars other than the Cougar.

, That's one heck of a sweet pair of valve covers! As for there origins I'm clueless, only part I can tell you is that they came off a mercury  :P.

I think all merc FE's had those. The last pair I had I gave to a friend who turned them into desk lamps.

I can tell you 4 things about them.

1) I've had some over the years.

2) They came from . . . . Mercurys (wow surprised right?? lol)

3) You got a cool deal on a cool find.

4) I want 'em! lol

Those covers were used on 65-67 Mercury full size cars. They came on 390, 410, 427 and 428 cars. They sell on eBay for anywhere from $50-125 with about $80 or so as the average. I never pass up a set as they are easy money. Hawkrod

HAWKROD, when you say you never pass up a set and are easy money... do you buy em, clean em up and sell them? I would definitely be interested in a pair if so!

I definitely sell them. They always sell when I get them. I don't have any now because I eBay them as soon as I find them. Hawkrod

Wow that's a cool find. I've never seen an actual Mercury motor. Even motors in Mercury cars are usually Ford motors. I know some about the Cougars as I have one.

Ironically, my buddy just bought a 77 F150 to start his lawn mowing business with, its got a swapped Merc Marauder 410 in it and since he's using it for work and not a hot rod, he's gonna trade them to me for doing some pinstriping on his truck plus my old ones, is that a deal or what
