Oil pan gasket
Was installing my oil pan today and ran into a aggravation situation. One side bolted down just fine no issues.
The other side, part of the cork gasket kept wanting to squeeze out between the pan and the block. I wasnt over tightening.
I left that part a bit loose, and will tighten it down to the proper torque tomorrow.

Re: Oil pan gasket
was it cork or rubber? did you glue it to the pan first and then let the glue dry? rubber ones will do that. they are a pain to mess with. and you should alsways leave all botls loose until all the botls are in and then tigthen them down evenly all the way around or skip from side to side one bolt at a time.

Re: Oil pan gasket
It's cork.
Probably using RTV?? and over tighening??
Use "The RightStuff", and don't over tighten.

Re: Oil pan gasket
Block and pan side I would use right stuff. I apply it to the pan and then lay the pan upside down with the gasket to let it set flat. Then I flip the pan over after an hour and put Right Stuff on top and shove it in 4 corner bolts just loose and then fit all the rest in. Last I torque them in a corner to corner X until I work all the way in to the center.
With any sealant putting the stuff on one side and not getting the part clamped to the other side will cause uneven gasket settling and cause lumps and leaks in the gasket. If any sealant dries uneven you cannot clamp it flat.

silicone + gasket = problemOldRedFord wrote:I used RTV, on the block and pan.
a few spots of contact cement to hold the gasket in place works just fine.
a nice bead of rtv without the gasket works too.

I feel that was my problem. I think I will just get a new gasket and start over. way easier now then with it in the truck.

Re: Oil pan gasket
You can use the newer one-piece rubber gasket from Ford, you just have to take a dremel tool and open the metal rings up a little in the corners.
I only used a little ultra black in the corners, otherwise the gasket gets installed dry. A lot of guys remove the metal rings in the corners because they are metric size but you can carefully enlarge them.
